Dear Library Friend,
For over 90 years, the Hailey Public Library has served our community with energy and gusto. We are the hub of our downtown core and love being the heart and soul of Hailey! Still, the library has been housed in its current location for 22 years and adaptations are needed to meet new needs. Now is the time to plan for the library’s future.
Like many public libraries, Hailey Public Library is in a state of evolution. Libraries face monumental changes and must make difficult choices about services and product offerings with the onslaught of electronic and digitized options on the market. Our research reflects a renewed appreciation for the public library as a community center that offers comfortable space and relevant services. It is no longer about the collection of physical books, but geared more for patron access to electronic material and versatile usage of library space.
The Hailey Public Library has begun a large-scale revitalization project with the ultimate goal being the creation of a flexible, multi-use space that supports our end users in the modern world. The ‘Phoenix Project’ initiative will ensure efficiencies, offer a more welcoming atmosphere and provide a great user experience. The floorplan will be designed with less formality lending itself to increased spontaneity and more versatile use of space.
We are incredibly excited. The library belongs to the community, and because the community is small with limited, affordable options for casual visits and socialization, ours may be the only space suitable. Already we are re-arranging the collection open up seating areas because we know visitors are staying longer. We are moving conversational spaces away from study spaces. The furniture, products, and especially the manpower needed to guarantee the Phoenix Projects success are costly. The Friends of the Hailey Public Library (FHPL) raise money for the purchase of new books and other materials, to support library events, to buy equipment, and to assist in paying for building upgrades. Now they need your help! When you support the Friends, you help build the community. You will also provide opportunities for lifelong learning, discovery and enrichment which support the mission of the library.
