Friends of the Litchfield Community Greenway

The Litchfield Community Greenway is an all volunteer organization whose objective is to provide a safe, serene, non-motorized route for walkers, runners, and bikers of all ages and abilities to travel from the center of Litchfield to Bantam. The Greenway currently runs from South Lake Street in Litchfield, through the White Memorial Conservation Center over our Bissell Road boardwalk and on to North Shore Road.

Help us BUILD THE BRIDGE across the Bantam River THIS WEEK! The components of the bridge are on site and our team of volunteers will be assembling the bridge over the next few weeks. We hope to set it in place before Mother's Day! Super exciting! 

The bridge its a key component of the Phase 4 expansion known as the Trail to Bantam. More than half of the grading, parking, drainage and trail installation is complete with the remainder expected to be competed over the next several weeks. We started in the fall but got snowed in!  The extension will extend the trail 1.9 miles from North Shore Road, across the Bantam River to Bantam Lake Road (209) and beyond to Stoddard Road, near the border with Morris. This expansion will nearly double the length of the existing Greenway and connect the two town centers (Bantam and Litchfield), schools, and communities.

Phase 5 expansion - Russell Street should also take shape this summer! It will extend the trail from the original Shepaug Railway station on Russell Street, now the HQ of the Litchfield Land Trust (and Litchfield Community Greenway), south to the intersection of Russell and South Lake Streets where it will connect with the current LCGW trailhead. This section will bring the Greenway close to the center of Litchfield.

The Friends of the Litchfield Community Greenway organization is entirely funded by private donations and foundation grants. While we receive no regular funding from any governmental organizations, we have secured grants from the CT DEEP Recreation Trails Program, local foundations and our community supporters to help pay for this very ambitious project that will have a lasting impact on our community.
