Friends of the Winooski River

A nonprofit organization

19 donors

At 1080 square miles, the Winooski is the largest watershed in the Lake Champlain basin.  It covers about 12% of Vermont’s land area and 1 in 3 Vermonters lives in the Winooski watershed.  It is a very diverse watershed, encompassing the State’s most urbanized areas as well as small towns, farmland and forested valley.

In keeping with the diversity of the watershed, the Friends pursue a variety of projects to support our work.  This includes streamside protection and restoration, water quality monitoring, stormwater management mitigation, habitat improvements and education.  We work in partnership with government agencies and other nonprofits.  We work with many of our municipalities on projects that protect both the river and local infrastructure.
