About Us

Tietze Park was acquired by the City of Dallas in 1924. That's right, this year Tietze Park will celebrate it's 100th birthday (you can read more about the Park's history here Tietze History)! Today the park is one of the most popular parks in Dallas and is said to be the most used per square foot by the neighborhood community as well as sports leagues and various groups. The park sits on 9 acres in the Lakewood area of Dallas with athletic fields, tennis and basketball courts, aquatic center, stone pavilion, playgrounds, walking path, and numerous shaded benches.

In 2002, a group of neighborhood residents formed the Friends of Tietze Park Foundation (FOTP). The foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that for the last 22 years has been the leading advocate for the improvement, preservation, and continued beautification of the park. During those 21 years the FOTP has worked tirelessly with the City to represent the interests of all park users and push for lasting park improvements, including making major contributions to lasting park amenities.  Some of those successful partnerships that are enjoyed by all today are:

  • Lindsay Brown Toddler Playground and shade structure with benches to view the playground
  • Flag pole with continuous maintenance of flags and light (one of the few parks that has a flag pole!)
  • Bike rack
  • Exercise Equipment stations with "pet parking posts"
  • Tennis court benches and netting
  • Four pet waste bag dispensers and continuous maintenance
  • Playground shade structure with benches
  • Installation of a sand volleyball court (details)
  • Centennial tree project - Work with the City on planting new trees to replace those that have fallen and close gaps in the canopy areas (details)

FOTP's current projects are:

  1. New playground - work with the City to upgrade the playground equipment
  2. Centennial -100 year celebration that befits the specialness of our park
  3. More plantings throughout the park.

In addition, the FOTP sponsors a number of annual events, often working closely with surrounding neighborhood associations for the park users. Some of these events are:

  • Tietze Shred
  • Easter Egg Hunt
  • Tietze Splash
  • Support of the Tietze Torpedos Swim Team
