Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts

Friendship Day School for the Sciences and the Arts is a K–5 private school located in Charlotte, North Carolina. Open to youth of all faiths and ethnicities, we offer students a rigorous and accelerated program within a caring environment. Our program educates and enhances student learning through engagement, exploration, and evaluation of the world through the lens of the sciences and the arts. FDS is a dedicated and impactful organization. Established in 2017, our organization has been at the forefront of supporting underserved students to address major academic achievement gaps and curating safe spaces for children to grow and learn. 

Mission: Our mission is to establish a school for the whole child that emphasizes problem-solving skills, the scientific method of thinking, artistic expression, and character development to ensure our scholars are college-ready and prepared to participate in a global society. 

Programs and Initiatives:  Our organization is actively engaged in community service, financial literacy and activities that allow our scholars to be the next leaders in STEM related fields. Additionally, our strong commitment through the arts is exemplified through our Suzuki Violin and Creative Arts programs. 

Impact 

Since our inception, Friendship Day School has made significant strides in academic achievement. We have successfully closed the gap in literacy and math compared to both our white and non-white counterparts. 80% of our scholars are meeting or exceeding national benchmarks on MAP testing. Our impact extends to scholars within the west corridor, Concord, Harrisburg, Huntersville, Gastonia and Cornelius. We pride ourselves on creating a safe and nurturing environment for students from all walks of life. It is so important for African American children to have a safe haven outside of their homes where they can grow, learn and be themselves.
