For 75 years, Frontier Nursing University, with its heart in the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, has educated nursing and midwifery leaders who have touched the lives of children and families across the nation and around the globe. Today, Frontier is a premier nursing university preparing more nurse-midwives and nurse practitioners than any other school in the country. Our graduate-level programs prepare nursing leaders in the primary care of women and families with an emphasis on rural and underserved populations. Our focus is on making quality education - and ultimately quality healthcare - accessible. 

Our graduates embrace the Frontier mission every day. They open clinics to provide affordable care in their rural hometowns. They welcome thousands of newborns into the world in hospitals, homes and birth centers. They tend to the uninsured and underinsured in underserved communities everywhere. They selflessly provide care across the country and throughout the world for women, children and families in the spirit of our founder, Mary Breckinridge.

Kendra Adkisson is one of many Frontier alumni who are passionate about making a difference. She says she was born to be a Frontier midwife. "I’m a Kentucky woman," she says, "it was only right." Kendra is inspired to make an impact in the state she calls home, just as Mary Breckinridge did.
