In Austin, Texas Fruitful Commons is supporting neighborhood leaders and organizations to grow food, strengthen communities, and foster stewardship of the natural commons.

We serve communities throughout the Austin region by supporting individuals, neighborhoods and organizations who are spearheading collaborative, equitable, and regenerative community agriculture projects that benefit neighborhoods and the greater whole.

These projects might include food forests, community gardens, and organic growing cooperatives, among others.

The people we work with include neighborhood leaders, community groups and individuals who have existing community agriculture projects or want to create new projects. We also support landowners, property developers, schools, and local governments in creating sustainable and verdant community commons.

OUR VALUES:

Respect and discovery of the Earth and the natural, social and economic systems it supports.

Connection to Nature that supports people’s mental, physical and spiritual health and ensures natural spaces are available to all people, particularly in cities.

Flourishing as a mindset, to foster thriving ecosystems and mitigate climate change.

Equity and Diversity are incorporated into our thinking, relationships, and actions, which helps us ensure that our work advances equity and inclusivity and combats systemic racism.

Power of Community Collaboration that focuses on grassroots approaches to addressing needs, fostering sustainable community investment and cultivating connections, relationships and leaders.

TREE CARE MINI GRANT PROGRAM:

Since 2023 Fruitful Commons has distributed over $130,000 in mini grants to community agriculture projects to expand and maintain Austin's urban canopy. These were distributed to largely underserved communities through an equity rubric.

FRUITFUL COMMONS SUSTAINING MEMBERSHIP:

Did you know that less than 1% of the food eaten in Austin is produced locally? This means that the majority of the food we consume is transported from many miles away, contributing to carbon emissions and impacting our environment. By becoming a sustaining member of Fruitful Commons, you are directly supporting the growth of community gardens, mini-grants for neighborhood food-growing projects, and the development of food forestry on public land. Your contribution will help us provide the fiscal sponsorship, advocacy, resources and support needed for these initiatives to thrive.

Thank you for being a part of the Fruitful Commons family. Together, we can create positive change in Austin and beyond! - become a sustaining member today at: www.fruitfulcommons.org.

Thank you!
