THE FtF FIELD TRIP FUND 

At a recent performance in Washington DC, FtF brought together 1,100 students from 10 schools in neighboring Montgomery County, Maryland, for a presentation at George Washington University's Lisner Auditorium. We lined up the band, the venue, the staff, the volunteers, and the press. All was in readiness. All we needed was for the kids to come.

But there was a speed bump.

As it turns out, moving 1,100 kids is no easy feat. Nor is it cheap. $6,500 was required to mobilize the County's own school busses and drivers. Using a private charter service was even more expensive.

And who was going to teach the students not attending the field trip? Substitute teachers needed to be paid cover every teacher/chaperone. Where was that money going to come from? 

Often, schools don't have room in their lean budgets to absorb these expenses, and passing the cost on to low-income students and parents is not an option.

So we had an idea. What if we established a fund to cover these expenses, and remove all impediments for students to hear our message.

$5 a child. That's what it works out to.
