ABOUT GABILAN CHAPTER SENECA

Seneca Family of Agencies is dedicated to the creation, preservation and support of foster, adoptive and relative families for children who need them. Seneca has continued to work nonstop to ensure that more children find their “forever families.”

Gabilan Chapter is a volunteer auxiliary group whose mission is to raise funds and support Seneca’s services in San Benito County. The Chapter has a long and distinguished history of service to adoption and child welfare. From 1956 to 1989, the chapter (then known as El Torillo Chapter) provided services and support to Children’s Home Society. In 1990, the members voted to change their affiliation to Kinship Center to see more of their fundraising efforts supporting local families. In 2011, Kinship Center merged with Seneca Family of Agencies to provide a fuller continuum of care, including mental health services. In January 2023, Kinship Center changed their name to Seneca Family of Agencies. Gabilan Chapter has had several generations of volunteers and is proud that some of their Associates and Active Privileged members were part of the original chapter.

ANNUAL WINE & FOOD TASTING FUNDRAISER

Through the years, the chapter has raised significant amounts of money by hosting luncheons, fashion shows and house tours; its signature fundraiser is the annual wine tasting, first held in 1957 to showcase local wineries and restaurants. The sellout event, the oldest of its kind on the Central Coast, has grown to include participation by large numbers of wineries and restaurants and guest attendance of up to 1200.

THE GABILAN ENRICHMENT FUND

Providing supplemental funding to our foster and adoptive families.

To compliment the Gabilan Scholarship Program, the Gabilan Enrichment Fund was created to help foster and adopted youth with a variety of educational and other needs that cannot be met by the foster or adoptive family. The funds can also provide for the small extras that children/youth may need: sports uniforms and letterman jackets, class trips, band instruments, or prom tickets. Medical and dental expenses are not included in the Gabilan Enrichment Fund grants; however, replacement glasses are not considered medical. The funding is provided through donations from a caring community and provide assistance that may not otherwise be available.
