Since its inception, the Gail’s Angels Board of Directors has been guided by the knowledge we’ve acquired from focus groups, social service providers and our clients. Our Board and staff take pride in reaching out with compassion to our community and surrounding neighbors. They are dedicated to providing inspiration and assistance to the ever-growing number of families in need. Our mission however, goes beyond words.

In the past year Gail’s Angels has worked with and helped families in various ways. In collaboration with local organizations and institutions such as Grace Church of Nutley and Nutley Red Cross, Gail’s Angels has supplied clothing and recreational equipment to 48 special needs children enabling them to enjoy a stay at camp and a summer of fun. In addition, because of help from likeminded people, Gail’s Angels has been fortunate to be able to supply clothing and food to approximately 85 families, 255 people.

Gail’s Angels has fostered a strong relationship with the Nutley Phoenix Center. Through countless hours of advice and guidance from people I admire and respect from the Phoenix Center, Gail’s Angels has completed and issued a Scholarship Awards Program that will benefit not only the autistic or special needs child but also, their siblings. Gail’s Angels has participated in the Phoenix Center Fair Day by hosting a table forum in which we met with, advised and reached out to hundreds of families with autistic children. We were also fortunate enough to be able to fund Christmas at the Phoenix Center for several families with autistic children. And will continue to do so.

I’ve had the privilege of working with families that have an autistic child in a group home by discussing services and assistance ranging from transportation to moving the child to a closer group home. I’ve also met with families that were thinking about placing their child in a group home.

Currently, Gail’s Angels is working with four families. All mothers have breast cancer. Two Moms have sons with autism, one daughter with autism and one Mom has a daughter with a childhood disease. Their needs are different. We’re utilizing our Medical Reconciliation & Assistance Program with one family that has overwhelming medical bills. Two others are seeking financial assistance via our Scholarship Program and yet another has three teenage daughters and an autistic son.

We’ll continue to seek new ways to lessen the stress on our families by developing innovative, on-going programs such as our “Learning and Recreation Day Program”. A Saturday half-day program in which special needs children can learn and interact while Mom and Dad enjoy a pleasant afternoon knowing their child is safe and having fun. Our “Discuss Forum Program” will offer guest speakers to our focus group addressing issues such as Dealing with Breast Cancer, Ways to Lessen Stress on Your Family, Teaching Parents How to Teach Their Autistic Child as well as Financial Planning and Available Counseling.

The support Gail’s Angels has received inspires me. The families we’ve served reassures me that our mission is necessary. Together, we can insure these families achieve and experience the same desires we all have. Thank you for your continued love and support.
