Garden to Table Silicon Valley

San Jose is blessed with an amazing diversity of residents from all over the world with rich culinary traditions to be shared and enjoyed. Although there are several amazing restaurants to choose from, why is our food scene considered so dull compared to our regional neighbors?

Making this reality more confusing is the fact that San Jose is blessed with some of the best weather in the country and a year round growing season. Any gardener or fruit tree owner knows why San Jose and the surrounding area was once called “The Valley of Heart’s Delight.” Put simply: you can grow just about anything here.

So then, why are so many of our residents still struggling with food security?

We have seen how a strong local food system can connect urban residents, increase food security, create jobs and new businesses, and dramatically increase delicious memories. In a phrase, it has the power to make cities better places to live. Garden to Table is working hard to build the best local food system in the country in San Jose, and providing a model for others to follow.

Our long-term plan is to facilitate the growth of urban agriculture by focusing our farm production to generate maximum revenue, in addition to hosting a variety of engagement opportunities to connect community members with great local food. We will extend our impact beyond the farm by developing more neighborhood harvest teams and increasing healthy food access to low-income neighborhoods. And with our policy work, we will make it easier for others to start new food businesses, and help develop new urban agriculture projects.
