Welcome to the Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (GVJCI)! We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization located in Southern California, whose mission is to engage, share, and embrace the Nikkei experience and culture. Donations big or small help our organization provide essential services and programs to the South Bay community! GVJCI's mission can only be accomplished with your help.
We hope that you and your loved ones are staying healthy and safe. Life for all of us has changed drastically within the last year. Our hearts go out to the families and friends of those who suffered loss or illness due to COVID-19. Although Gardena Valley Japanese Cultural Institute (GVJCI) still remains temporarily closed to the public, we have found ways to still serve the community, especially during this time of need. AND, we look forward to the day when we can open safely and see all of you again!
OUR ROOTS: We were formally incorporated in 1967, but our roots in the South Bay trace back over 100 years ago through our Japanese Language School's legacy.
WHO WE ARE: We are a nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the needs of the Nikkei and broader community of the South Bay through educational, cultural, social, and recreational programs.
WHY SUPPORT US: We need your support to continue these programs and services, and keep the facilities in good operating condition.
We invite you to follow us on Facebook and Instagram, (facebook.com/GVJCI and instagram.com/gardenavalleyjci/) and to sign up for our emails and visit our website through www.jci-gardena.org/ to stay up to date with the latest information from us, including our upcoming 2021 GVJCI Virtual Matsuri Fundraiser June 21 - 25, 2021.
We were built by the community, and we are sustained by the community. We deeply appreciate and thank you again for your generosity and support!
With warm regards,
