Gardening the Community

GTC grows food, leadership and community, building healthy and equitable communities in Springfield, MA and beyond.  Each year we work with 30 youth who grow thousands of pounds of fresh, organic produce for their neighbors.  We also partner with local farms to bring additional affordable, locally grown fruits and vegetables into our neighborhood.  

We work to build a socially and racially just food system, so that all people have access to healthy food that is sustainably grown without the exploitation of workers or harm to the environment. Right now our community (known as the Mason Square neigbhorhood of Springfield) is what some people call a food desert - meaning families lack basic access to affordable, fresh food.  We are part of a local movement to change this reality through home grown solutions led by community residents. 

Youth leadership development is at our heart.  GTC youth go on to become change agents and advocates for social justice in Springfield and beyond.

Our goal is to raise $60,000 by the end of December to support our youth leadership development and food justice organizing work over the winter.
