Genesis Community Health

“My name is Patricia Conn and my family has lived in Garden City since 1952.  As my children were growing up, heath care for a single parent was affordable through Medicaid.  However, as the kids eventually left the house, I found myself facing the reality of being a self-employed musician with elderly parents.  I realized I had two  options—I could either get a conventional job, hope for decent health care, and not be there for my folks, or I could continue assisting my parents while maintaining an  income level below the poverty line, which would require me to pay for medical expenses out-of-pocket.  The choice was a no-brainer; I don't need to earn bundles of money.  I’m from hardy pioneer stock, we set our own bones!

However, my circumstances had caused me to slip between the cracks of health-care; what didn't seem so scary when I was in my mid-thirties became down-right frightening in my fifties.  I first heard of Genesis through a mutual friend.  She had received her flu shot at the clinic and said they were an organization of volunteers.  The clinic was also just across Chinden Blvd. from my home in Garden City! 

 Since becoming a patient at the clinic, I have availed myself of its many services, including medical treatment, specialty services through VPN, preventative dental care, and physical therapy for my back and arthritis problems.  The clinic has also been outstanding in assisting me with my type-two diabetes.  Without the crew at Genesis, I would have been forced to “tough it out,” hoping that strange looking mole was non-cancerous (it was!), wondering why I got so tired after a big meal (it was my blood sugar level!), and considering a seeing-eye dog instead of knowing the hemorrhage in my eye was reabsorbing and would be gone in a couple of months.  What does Genesis mean to me?  Priceless peace of mind.”
