Gifts for Teens

Sue left home at 13 and began to fend for herself in downtown San Jose. Life on the streets felt safer than life in her own home. She says "It may feel safer, but its lonely on the streets and you feel lost. Nobody cares about you."  

At a drop-in teen shelter Sue got a Gifts for Teens duffel bag full of gifts at Christmas time. Sue says, "Gifts for Teens cared about me. That new hoodie really kept me warm all winter and the bag had so many things that I really needed. Thanks GFT" 

The shelter staff report "The homeless teens would have no holiday gifts without these bags. Watching these teens pull out gifts was like watching a kid in a candy store!" 

Gifts for Teens assembles and provides 1,500 festive holiday duffels and girl’s tote bags stuffed with fun and practical gifts for needy downtown San Jose teenagers.

Your cash donation buys duffels teens use all year and helps fill bags with the things growing teens need - new sweatshirts, t-shirts, shoes, socks, hats, scarves and gloves, shampoo, cosmetics, store gift cards, food certificates and much more.

YOUR DONATION TO GIFTS FOR TEENS WILL -

• FILL an unmet teen need – little help or special  attention and few gifts are offered to teenagers  locally during holidays.
• FUND this grass-roots, all volunteer, cost efficient  community service organization.
• TELL homeless and low-income San Jose teens that  you care deeply about the negative effect poverty  has on their quality of life.

Each year 650 Silicon Valley community volunteers help GFT meet this need including corporations, schools, businesses, and local organizations including the members of AAUW-San Jose.
