For 25 years, GRIP has served as a watchful guardian of our environment in southwest New Mexico, keeping an eye on activities with the potential to harm community and ecological health, like polluting mining operations, unsustainable water use, and ecologically-harmful projects. In response, we have brought technical, policy and legal expertise to protect our land, air, water, public lands and wildlife. By facilitating informed public participation, we have engaged our community in natural resource use decisions and stewardship of natural systems.
Our advocacy efforts have resulted in permits for protective reclamation, water conservation, and water treatment for Grant County mines; the defeat of the Gila River diversion project which posed a severe threat to New Mexico's last wild river; and mobilization of local opposition to force Holloman Air Force Base to expand its F-16 training airspace to the east instead of encroaching upon the Gila bioregion. Our program areas also focus on community resilience and action on climate change, watershed stewardship and restoration, and environmental education.
GRIP is the premier community-based environmental group in this area. No one else is working to protect people, air and water from the impacts of mining. And when new threats arise, people look to GRIP for leadership. - Harry Browne
I have supported GRIP for many years, because every ecosystem needs a protector. - David Rose
GRIP keeps an eye on environmental, conservation, and other issues that impact our quality of life - a friendly watchdog for our community! CarolBeth Elliott
