Good Mews is metro-Atlanta's first cage-free, no-kill cat shelter—an alternative to traditional animal shelters. Since 1988, Good Mews has been a safe haven for homeless, abused, and abandoned cats to roam freely and receive love and medical care until placing them in permanent, loving homes. Because we receive no government support, Good Mews relies solely on volunteers and donations from generous supporters like you. 

Our Work

Good Mews' impact reaches much farther than only being a cat rescue. We provide our community with programs such as TNVR, low-cost spay/neuter surgeries, pet food pantries, free vaccine clinics, events, and much more. Good Mews also promotes public awareness regarding the value of pets, animal welfare, pet overpopulation, and quality human-animal companionship through education and outreach programs. Our mission is to help as many cats, animals, and people as we can, in as many ways as we can, and every donation helps us further achieve this goal.

Our Shelter

Good Mews is home to approximately 100 residents at any given time, with another 30 to 40 cats in foster care. We have an average adoption rate of 600 cats per year. Our 5,500 square-foot facility was designed with the cats in minds; large windows allow the cats to receive natural light and enrichment from watching outdoor critters enjoying our certified wildlife habitat and bird feeders. 

Our Mission in Action

At Good Mews, our work doesn’t stop at the shelter doors. Earlier this year, an Alabama animal shelter called us in desperation. They had driven from Alabama with 15 cats and 3 puppies—and due to paperwork issues with another shelter, had nowhere to place them. Within 70 minutes, the Good Mews team and our rescue partners rallied together to secure safe placement for all 18 animals. Good Mews welcomed 12 cats on the spot, and two other shelters stepped in to take the rest. Thanks to this lightning-fast teamwork, every one of those cats and dogs had a safe place to land before the day was done.

How Your Donation Helps

$75 = covers a spay or neuter surgery for one cat.
$150 = covers the total costs for a new Good Mews intake.
$250 = covers the monthly supply of medicine for five cats.
$500 = covers the whole week of food and litter for the entire shelter.
$1,250 = covers an entire day of on-site surgeries at Good Mews.
