GGRC serves around 8,000 people in the Bay Area, and the use of tablets would help our social workers to expedite the services that our community need.

We want provide mobile access to meet families at home, community, homeless shelters, work, and more.  We want to meet families face to face and expedite services by using technology, creating online forms assistance, being
able to teleconference with professionals and parents, and communicating with families instantly through mobile technology.  

Our Regional Center would like to utilize existing and emerging technologies to better support families and individuals to access services. Working in alliance with our vendors, and providing services for our community, switching over technology will allow the social workers from Golden Gate Regional Center to work more efficiently. The sustainability of this project is for the social workers to manage better their case load, dealing with how things are done more quickly. We want to make the social worker’s jobs more about people GGRC support and not about the
paperwork!

During the meetings the social workers don’t have remote access, so after each meeting the social worker has to come back to the office to complete the paperwork. With the use of tablets the social worker can type faster and have the client sign everything in the end of the meeting. Currently, for every face to face visit that is 2 hours, there is an additional 2 hours minimum of paperwork.

This project cannot be an innovation in the corporation’s world; however, for a nonprofit organization with a limited operational budget technology is not the priority. Each social worker has about 90 cases. The complexity of this job and
the amount of paperwork makes its job sometimes overwhelming.  The innovation of our technology would allow the social worker to work more effectively, and
promote more outcomes for persons with developmental disabilities.
