Good Beginnings of Sullivan County

A nonprofit organization

Good Beginnings of Sullivan County provides help to pregnant women, children and families in southwestern New Hampshire.  Allison's story describes the life-changing nature of our work.

On the day Allison walked into Good Beginnings, she was 16 years old and two months pregnant.  She had dropped out of high school and left home to live with her 20-something boyfriend.  When she found out she was pregnant, everything fell apart.  Feeling lonely and scared, she came to Good Beginnings.

Today, Allison is the mother of an adorable, healthy baby boy.  She has a high school diploma that she proudly displays on the wall in her small apartment. Allison works part-time and when her son is older, plans to attend nursing school.  She credits Good Beginnings with turning her life around.

“Good Beginnings gave me hope and strength when I needed it most.  They taught me everything I needed to know about being a mom and they helped me to develop confidence in myself.  Without Good Beginnings, I don’t know what would have happened to me and my son.”

Good Beginnings of Sullivan Couny helps mothers like Allison to develop the attachment that leads to a loving and nurturing relationship with their babies. We know that children are more likely to thrive and to become healthy adults if they have a healthy start in life, free from abuse, neglect or trauma.

Good Beginnings of Sullivan County served 810 families last year in Sullivan and Grafton counties.  We never turn a family away who needs our help, and we never charge a family for our services.  But we are only able to do this because of the generosity of our contributors.   Thanks to you, we can continue to help all New Hampshire children and families who need Good Beginnings.
