Good Neighbors Animal Rescue

A nonprofit organization

GNARs greater purpose is the prevention of and to spread solutions for pet overpopulation and abandonment. Education of the public on what to do when a lost pet is found and responsible pet ownership is part of GNAR's greater mission. GNAR strives to distribute advice, resources and information to the public about vaccines, spay/neuter benefits, the plight of overpopulation, euthanization rates, low cost clinic resources, microchips and prevention of disease, parasites and behaviors which cause animals to be abandoned. GNAR helps pet owners to rehome their animals responsibly, who don't want to take them to a shelter, through a safe and comprehensive application screening process. All services are free to the public. Education of the public about what to do when a lost pet is found and responsible pet ownership is part of GNAR's greater mission. Our main function is to help those who find stray pets on the street, litters of kittens and pregnant cats. Over 400 adoptions per year are conducted, with a greater number of intakes of homeless pets who are released (feral cats after TNR) or fostered for life as unadoptable with chronic conditions or behavoirs. GNAR volunteers rehabilitate hundreds of difficult dogs to become adoptable and to match dogs to adopters who will be able to care for them properly. GNAR guarantees all adopted pets for life and accepts them back as fosters forever so that no GNAR pet is ever abandoned again or ever ends up in a high-kill shelter. GNAR has no paid employees or facilities. All homeless pets are housed with foster families in their homes, and cared for by volunteers, therefore there is little to no overhead and most donations go towards veterinary care. GNAR helps to fill the void left by inadequate municipal animal control and impersonal public shelters, which aren't afforded sufficient funding, staff, or facility capacities to be able to address the extreme extent of pet homelessness and neglect across all of Texas. GNAR is set up to rescue, care for and relieve the suffering of pets on the street and to help citizens who want animals to be treated humanely, but don't have the knowledge or resources themselves.

Our Needs

Monetary donations help us to keep animals out of overpopulated shelters and to provide important services such as neutering, spaying, vaccinations, disease treatment and prevention, and pet owner education. Many animals come to us sick or injured, and in need of veterinary care. The generous support of our donors allows us to save these animals and foster them until a forever family can be found.
