Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, headquartered in Louisville since 1923. It operates in 103 Kentucky counties and positively affects more than 20,000 Kentuckians each year with its programs and services.

In 2023, Goodwill proudly celebrates its centennial anniversary - and its mission to serve the underserved has never been more relevant. This year, it's taking its biggest and boldest steps to reduce poverty in Kentucky communities by establishing an "Opportunity Campus" in West Louisville and rebranding/building 11 other "Opportunity Centers" in areas that need them most. These sites are one-stop shops to self-sufficiency, with a variety of resources available to individuals who need a hand up, not a handout, when entering the workforce.

In 2022, Goodwill partnered with more than 877 employer partners to place more than 2,300 Kentuckians in jobs across the commonwealth – both inside and outside of its stores. Its career-path programs and employment services, which serve Kentuckians who have disabilities or need a second chance at entering society, are funded through a combination of grants, corporate and individual giving and its retail stores, which sell donated clothing and household items at 67 locations across Kentucky. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar generated at Goodwill stores go toward its programs and services.

Who We Are

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization, headquartered in Louisville since 1923. We serve 103 Kentucky counties and employ about 1,700 people. Our staff members have placed thousands more into jobs outside of Goodwill by developing relationships with hundreds of employers throughout Kentucky.

Goodwill Industries of Kentucky helps people with disabilities or other disadvantages achieve and maintain employment to gain a better quality of life. We give people a hand up—not a handout—so they can experience the dignity and independence that comes from earning a paycheck and achieving self-sufficiency.

The coronavirus pandemic has shaken our world and is forcing us all to take extreme measures to keep one another safe. At Goodwill Industries of Kentucky, we have also been forced to take some very difficult steps. But despite the closures to our stores, donations centers and our career services locations, we have not wavered from our mission and are still trying to provide a beacon of hope for those in need.

To overcome this unprecedented challenge, Goodwill has joined the many companies, communities, nonprofits, government agencies and more, who have come together in a collective effort to support our friends and neighbors.

We have gathered statewide resources at www.goodwillky.org/resources and are making them available for those who may need them the most.

We hope to open our stores and employment centers in the near future, but until then, we humbly ask for support so we can continue to further our mission to move the needle on Kentucky poverty.
