YOU will help our neighbors safely engage with community and return to work.

Goodwill Industries of the Valleys’ mission is helping people and families in our community achieve a better life through work and independence.  There is a tremendous amount of pride and dignity that comes from earning a paycheck and participating in your community.  Goodwill programming empowers people to achieve their goals, support their families, and reach their greatest potential.

  • Discovery Services in Radford provides Group Day Support and Community Engagement for individuals with intellectual disabilities.  The program offers opportunities for socialization and community integration, while helping individuals develop skills to gain greater independence.  There are 28 individuals who participate in Discovery Services in Radford.
  • The Senior Community Service Employment Program (SCSEP) provides part-time employment and training for older workers who are low-income.  Individuals who are enrolled in SCSEP are placed in community service positions based on their unique skill set, physical requirements, and training needs, among other considerations.  SCSEP host sites and other local employers benefit from well-prepared, mature employees with a strong work ethic.  Currently, 40 individuals participate in SCSEP in the NRV.

Goodwill is committed to serving individuals in our community now and in the future.  We have heard from the individuals who participate in both Discovery Services and SCSEP and they want to come back.  Goodwill is implementing new safety protocols in preparation for these programs to reopen and we need your help.

Goodwill needs your support to purchase protective items for the individuals in programming and the staff who attend to their needs.  Needed items include cloth face coverings, disposable masks, gloves, goggles for staff, hand sanitizer stations, and other protective items.

Your gift during GiveLocalNRV will help these individuals stay safe!

During the COVID-19 crisis, we have enjoyed virtual gatherings,
which allowed our Discovery Services family in the NRV to stay connected.

Missy Kimbler, who participated in Discovery Services previously, tells her story.

YOU are the reason Goodwill is able to provide critical services for NRV residents.

Last year, you and others in the community donated the items you no longer need to Goodwill more than 1.1 million times.  These were then sold in Goodwill stores, resulting in revenue to support Goodwill's services.  These donations were put to good use, with more than 89 cents of every dollar spent directly supporting our mission.  The financial impact of Goodwill stores being closed for three months as a result of COVID-19 has been significant, as the stores generally provide 70% of Goodwill’s revenues.

Goodwill needs your support now more than ever!  Donate TODAY!
YOU will help our neighbors stay safe and well, while working and engaging with community.

If we exceed our GiveLocalNRV goal, funds over $1,500 will be allocated to the Goodwill Learning Academy in Christiansburg.  We look forward to reopening our Discovery Services and SCSEP programs, and resuming in-person career training at the Learning Academy soon. Goodwill's training and employment services are also available online at Goodwill Virtual Services.  If you know someone who needs help finding employment and/or wants to develop in-demand skills for career advancement, please share our virtual offerings!
