Goodwood's mission is to preserve and operate its historic Main House and gardens as a cultural and educational resource for our community and visitors alike. Goodwood is famous for its Main House's unique architecture, superbly restored interior, original furnishings, and for its magnificent gardens and grounds, all of which hold the history of North Florida. These assets exist for the benefit of our community today and to improve life in Tallahassee tomorrow. The estate began in the 1830s as a plantation that encompassed 2,400 acres. The plantation declined after the Civil War and by the 1880s the remaining 160 acres served as a private residence. In 1911, the house and garden underwent major renovation. The estate’s elegance was further enhanced by Goodwood’s owners in the late 1920s. Goodwood is currently restored to this turn-of-the-century Country Estate era.
