The Story So Far:
For over 20 years, Gotham Roller Derby has been NYC’s only WFTDA flat track roller derby league. For many of our league members, participating with Gotham is more than just a hobby — it’s a second home and family. Being at the epicenter of the COVID-19 pandemic nearly decimated our league. We lost our practice space and the ability to skate at all in 2020 and 2021, and were only able to provide extremely limited programming in 2022.
Despite this, Gotham was able to return to competitive play in 2023, and qualified for the first WFTDA International Championship Tournament since the pandemic in 2024. However, we continue to intensely struggle to find and afford places to skate. Many of our skaters travel 4+ hours roundtrip to New Jersey in order to attend the one travel team practice that our league is able to offer. The commitment level of our league members is unquestionable.
Now, in 2025, we are hosting our first WFTDA-sanctioned tournament in a decade: The Silence of the Jams. This tournament will feature some of the best teams in the sport from Arch Rival Roller Derby, Boston Roller Derby, Minnesota Roller Derby, Montreal Roller Derby, and of course, Gotham Roller Derby.
Due to our space issues, we are hosting this tournament in North Arlington, New Jersey. Powered by league members, volunteers, and the entirety of Gotham’s A and B travel teams (who are also skating in the tournament!), this tournament will be one to remember.
But we need your help to make it happen! In order to break even, we need to raise a minimum of $5,000 (outside of ticket sales). Putting on this tournament has truly been a labor of love, and we hope you can support Gotham in bringing some of the highest level roller derby to the NYC metro area. As a 501(c)3, not-for-profit organization, all donations to Gotham Roller Derby are fully tax-deductible where permitted by law.
We thank you for your support, and hope to see you there!
