Grace Smith House is a private nonprofit that provides residential and non-residential services to victims of domestic violence and their families for the last 43 years. We offer shelter, counseling, transitional housing, advocacy, safety planning, preventive education and more to residents of Dutchess County, NY.

Our hotline is available 24/7 at 845-471-3033 and we accept requests for help regardless of a person's race, color, religion, national origin, sex, gender identity, orientation, age or disability.

Our Mission

The mission of Grace Smith House, Inc. is to empower individuals and families to live free from domestic violence by:

• Providing shelter and apartments, advocacy, counseling and education
• Raising the consciousness of the community regarding the extent, type and seriousness of domestic violence
• Initiating and taking positions on public policies in order to provide options which empower victims of domestic violence

When Grace Smith House opened in 1981, no one envisioned that our organization would serve over 2,500 families each year. We provide shelter, transitional housing, counseling, advocacy, liaison services, children's services and so much more. Our work would not be possible without the support and generosity of our community.

Grace Smith House accepts requests for help regardless of a person's ethnicity, religion, gender or sexual orientation.

Our Impact

In 2023, Grace Smith House:

- Provided emergency shelter and services to 79 adults and 84 children.
- Fielded 2,538 calls to our 24-hour hotline.
- Served 20 families in our transitional housing program.
- Educated 6,917 youth about bullying, teen dating violence and more.
- Provided bilingual services 805 times.
- Helped file 856 Orders of Protection in family court.
- Accompanied 147 victims of domestic violence to court, a total of 639 times.
