Grace Church of Alameda

The island city of Alameda is a diverse, vibrant, surprisingly tight-knit community in the nation's sixth largest metropolitan area. It boasts quick access via ferry, bridge, and tunnel to Oakland and San Francisco, miles of pristine beaches, a wealth of victorian-era architecture, dozens of independent shops and restaurants, gorgeous climate, and a small town feel. You don’t drive through Alameda. You drive to Alameda.

While there is much about Alameda that recalls the goodness and creativity of our Creator, there is one thing in which this community of 75,000 souls is sorely lacking: the gospel. Seminary presidents, local pastors, current and former residents have all expressed the same assessment of the island. Spiritually speaking, Alameda is hard soil. 

And yet, the Word of God that called creation into being is the same Word that spoke his grace over all things in the person and work of Jesus Christ. We firmly believe that the gospel of grace is powerful enough to break through anyplace, no matter how hard the soil. Not only do we believe that the gospel can break through anyplace; since it is the power of God (Rom. 1:16), it can radically transform any person or place. And we believe God has called us to participate in the advance of his transforming gospel through planting Grace Church of Alameda. 

We will pursue our mission (to make disciples to the glory of God and the good of our city) with a focus on: God's grace. To us. For the world.

• God's grace. The Christian life starts and ends with the gospel of God’s grace in Christ by his Spirit. At Grace Alameda, we submit our understanding of God to the biblical gospel and live our whole lives in light ot it.
• To us. God’s purpose has always been to save a people. By grace he has adopted us to be united together as his family, the church. We are called to live in love and service toward one another, and bear witness to the gospel in the context of Christian community.
• For the world. The gospel is a message meant to be proclaimed to all. We believe God has called us to be part of his mission to the world, and will seek to make disciples by serving our city and telling others the good news of Jesus.
