NOLA Grannies

A nonprofit organization

The mission of the NOLA Grannies is to provide basic supplies and a warm welcome to recently released asylum seekers traveling through New Orleans' Greyhound station to their sponsors' location. Grannies meet 4 buses a day, seven days a week with water, snacks, fruit, diapers, hygiene supplies and toys for the children. It's a simple mission. We let those escaping violence and poverty in their countries know that there are "abuelas" here waiting to welcome them with warmth and assistance.

NOLA Grannies is an all-volunteer organization of people of all ages, cultures, faiths and genders. While our primary goal is to lessen the pain and fear of those who have been through great hardship getting into this country, we also have provided a way for people here to participate in something that reaffirms our humanity. The NOLA Grannies were first in what is now a network of "grannies" in bus stations across the U.S. providing care and respect to families and children in great need of both.

Testimonials

Our greatest testimonials come from children who pick a toy from the toy bag and smile at us with big eyes as they once again become the little kids they're meant to be. As families line up to re-board their buses, they wave and smile as we wish them "buena suerte." Those are our testimonials.
