For years, the Greater Amarillo Foster Parent Association (GAFPA) has stood beside foster, adoptive, and kinship families across the Texas Panhandle—families who open their homes and hearts to children who have endured trauma, loss, and uncertainty. Our mission is simple but powerful: to support, equip, and strengthen caregivers so children can feel safe, connected, and deeply loved.
GAFPA was created by foster parents, for foster parents. We understand the midnight emergencies, the school-day meltdowns, the heartbreaking stories, and the victories worth celebrating. We know that no family should walk this journey alone. Through monthly support groups, training, community events, and year-round assistance, GAFPA serves as a lifeline—offering practical help, emotional support, and a community that “gets it.”
This work isn’t possible without YOU.
Your generosity directly fuels our mission, allowing us to meet needs that often go unmet anywhere else. During The Panhandle Gives Campaign, your donation is amplified, meaning every dollar creates an even greater impact for the families and children we serve.
Through our growing programs, GAFPA ensures caregivers have the tools, resources, and connection they need to confidently care for children healing from trauma:
A safe, encouraging space where foster, adoptive, and kinship parents can gain training hours, receive guidance, learn new skills, and connect with others who understand their journey.
Beginning in 2026, GAFPA will offer quarterly group counseling for members—helping caregivers process secondary trauma, strengthen coping skills, and build resilience in the home.
Our annual Foster & Adoptive Family Camp gives families the chance to bond, rest, and reconnect—away from stress and daily pressures—while children experience fun, belonging, and community.
From Back-to-School events to holiday celebrations, GAFPA brings families together, offering moments of joy, stability, and connection that help kids feel seen and valued.
Each program is designed to strengthen caregivers, which in turn strengthens the children in their home—creating ripple effects of stability, healing, and hope.
This year, GAFPA’s goal is $15,000 to fund expanded support services for local families. Your generosity will:
• Fund monthly support groups and specialized training for foster, adoptive, and kinship parents.
• Provide quarterly counseling sessions for members, strengthening mental health and caregiver resilience.
• Support our 2nd Annual GAFPA Camp, empowering families to bond and heal.
• Cover resources, supplies, and emergency needs for families caring for children from hard places.
• Help us continue building a strong, connected community for caregivers across the Texas Panhandle.
Your gift—especially during The Panhandle Gives—goes further and lasts longer. Together, we can ensure families never have to face the foster care journey alone.
Will you join us in supporting the families who support our children?
Your generosity makes you part of their story—and part of their healing.
You can donate today and make a lasting difference in the lives of local foster, adoptive, and kinship families.
