Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank

A nonprofit organization

Greater Hampton Roads Diaper Bank's mission is to combat "diaper need," a silent crisis brought on by not having the financial resources to keep family members in clean, dry diapers.

Lack of clean diapers has significant ramifications.

-  Leaving a child in soiled diapers for long periods can lead to diaper rash, infections, and other health problems. Families struggling financially have reported leaving their children in soiled diapers for a longer period of time than they otherwise would have. Some families even resort to cleaning out or drying soiled disposable diapers and re-using them in order to meet their diaper needs.

Most childcare programs require parents to provide disposable diapers, so parents without them cannot leave their children in daycare to attend work or school.

Diapers are expensive, and even more so if a family must resort to a local convenience store to purchase them. No federal or state safety-net program provides funds specifically for the purchase of diapers.

Cloth diapers are not a practical solution for families without washing machines, and most laundromats do not allow diapers.

The GHR Diaper Bank is filling this need in our community.
