Greater Lava Hot Springs Prosperity Foundation

The Greater Lava Hot Springs Prosperity Foundation had its beginnings with the Horizons III program from 2008-2010, whereby communities needed to have <5,000 residents and a poverty level >10%. The greater Lava area has about 1,000 residents and has about 25% poverty.

Communications are critical for small communities, so we first established a user friendly Internet site (http://www.lava83246.com/) where residents could find information about happenings in the community, place & find job postings, list items for sale, & services offered.

We provide a Community Garden for residents to grow their own vegetables, as well as planting our own items to be given to those in need.

The city has designated the 2nd Saturday of September as an Annual Service Day where volunteers help anyone that does not have the physical or financial means to complete projects at their homes.

For Thanksgiving we play a role in hosting a Community Thanksgiving dinner at the Community Center where everyone is welcomed and encouraged to attend.

And, to encourage and support post-secondary education for any of our residents, we want to give $100 grants to those returning to school, regardless of age. Overtime we would like to increase the grant amounts to help our residents.
