Green Umbrella

Green Umbrella is the regional sustainability alliance of Greater Cincinnati, with over 200 member organizations and over 200 individual members passionate about enhancing the environmental health and vitality of our region. 

We lead collaboration, incubate ideas and catalyze solutions that create a resilient, sustainable region for all. 

We believe in a future where all residents have access to trails and greenspace, healthy food, climate-safe neighborhoods and equitable opportunities to thrive.

In the past decade, we have:

• grown from one staff member to ten (soon to be eleven);
• created an alliance of over 200 member organizations;
• launched three staffed initiatives: Tri-State Trails, the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council and the Cincinnati 2030 District;
• hosted 100+ networking events and conferences, including our annual Midwest Regional Sustainability Summit;
• and incubated several nonprofit organizations, including Red Bike, Taking Root, Produce Perks Midwest and Adventure Crew.

Since we launched Tri-State Trails, more than 30 miles of trails and 63 miles of on-road bikeways have been built thanks to the collaboration of over 150 partners.

Since we launched the Greater Cincinnati Regional Food Policy Council, dozens of institutional partners are sourcing local food and our region's two local food hubs have made over $1.5 million in sales.

Since we launched the Cincinnati 2030 District, over 300 buildings totaling nearly 26 million square feet have committed to reduce their energy, water and transportation-related emissions by 50% by 2030.

The challenges we face require new ways of collaborating on systems-level solutions. That's why we use the collective impact model to bring together a wide range of businesses, nonprofits, academic institutions, local governments and passionate residents to unite behind a shared agenda.
