Green Worker Cooperatives is based in the South Bronx and serves immigrants and communities of color. We build, grow and sustain worker-owned green businesses to create a strong local and democratic economy rooted in racial and gender equity.  We are the oldest people of color-led (specifically Black-led) worker cooperative development organization in the US.

We envision a world where people enjoy an economy that works for all. Working cooperatively, we have equitable power, wealth and resources. We nurture healthy relationships with each other and the earth.

We believe that your work shouldn't kill you, your community, or the earth.

Our Co-op Academy, a 5-month long cooperative business boot camp for worker cooperative startups has produced over 40 worker cooperatives, about 1/3 of all worker co-ops in NYC. And that number is growing quickly thanks to us. Our co-ops are involved in everything from doula and midwifery services to support families in the birthing process (Uptown Village Cooperative, Innatus Birth, Sese Community Wellness), to a Trans Latina-run beauty services (Mirror Salon & Spa), solar panel installation (Solar Uptown Now Services), and culinary services (Woke Foods, MoFya!, Itypoia Cuisine, and Khao'na Kitchen.
