The Greenspire School

Who We Are

Located in the beautiful Grand Traverse Commons natural area, The Greenspire School (TGS) is a vibrant charter middle school that inspires innovation with a unique educational model.  TGS is a nurturing Montessori-inspired community, that fosters learning through self-directed student projects (Project-based Learning).  The curriculum is place-based, focusing on environmental science, with community partnerships such as the Grand Traverse Stewardship Initiative.  

Why It Matters

As students in the US fall behind global standards in science and math, TGS is focused on a rigorous application of STEAM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Math). Complementing the sciences, the arts and creative problem solving are integral to the curriculum and a key skill set for students to execute and deliver projects.  TGS has doubled student population in three years, and is in the final phases of constructing a new building allowing for additional enrollment (there is currently a wait list). Our campaign will fund a Digital Arts Lab for the new school building to create 21st century learning opportunities - including computer programming, app development, film making and podcasting  - for TGS's students.  

Your Donation Impact

Because TGS students partner with many area non-profits through service learning, a Digital Arts Lab will also help students execute projects that benefit the community at large, as well as in citizen scientist initiatives.

Donors will receive student art as a thank you!  At the $10 -$99 level donors will receive a scan of original art work. Starting at the $100 level (Trillium) donors will receive a frameable wood block print of original student artwork.  The art work will be a student interpretation of the botanical species named in the donation level.
