Children who attend summer camp experience both organized and unstructured play time, make new friends, and experience outdoor adventures. Summer camp can boost a child’s self-confidence and help grow their sense of independence. This is true for all children, perhaps even more so for children with a disability.

“My son has been attending Camp Greenwell as a Jr. Camp Counselor all summer. He is 14 years old and mentally handicapped. Jeremy attended last year as a camper and was asked to return as a Jr. Counselor this summer. … I am very pleased with how much Jeremy has matured this summer with his new responsibilities.

Allowing children to play and grow together offers benefits to those without disabilities too.

“The inclusion of children with special needs has opened their awareness and helped them to learn tolerance, understanding and kindness.  The first year my son attended camp, at age five, his buddy was a boy with Downs Syndrome.  He (my son) is now 8 years old and loves to come to camp.”

  - Parent of Child at Camp Greenwell

Greenwell’s summer camps offer all of these opportunities in several inclusive and accessible day camp options: Camp Greenwell – a traditional outdoor camp – as well as specialty camps including Horse Camp, Kayak Camp, and Fishing Camp.

Your donation to the Camp Greenwell Scholarship Fund will help families of children with disabilities offset the cost of camp.
