At Grocers On Wheels, we desire to continue providing fresh mobile produce to address a lack of food access/insecurities in the Triangle of North Carolina. Many residents are on fixed incomes where their budget doesn’t allow room to buy fresh fruit, vegetables, cheese and meats or have a means of reliable transportation to reach fresh foods. Our work to consistently supply farm fresh foods every week to elderly, family's with young children and handicapped. GROCERS ON WHEELS CAN TRULY USE YOUR SUPPORT TO GROW THIS PROJECT TO FILL THE FOOD VOID IN THE COMMUNITY!

We are fundraising to purchase a sustainable, custom built refrigerated climate-controlled mobile trailer that we will attach to our truck. This will assist us in maintaining the fruits and vegetables for longer periods in the elements when delivering fresh foods year around.

GROCERS ON WHEELS IS CONSTANTLY ENGAGING THE COMMUNITY WITH IMPROV & THEATRICS AROUND FOOD & HEALTH EDUCATION.

The donation goal will also assist to open a specialty grocery store, in southeast Raleigh where access to the freshest produce is limited. In this store we will also provide non-traditional theatrical nutrition education by co-founder/award-winning producer Anita Woodley. THE CO-FOUNDER IS GROWING HIS FATHER'S LEGACY THAT STARTED IN THE GREAT DEPRESSION BY USING A MULE TO PULL A GUTTED OUT CAR TRUNK FILLED WITH PRODUCE FROM HIS FARM THROUGHOUT THE COMMUNITY.

There will be a significant long-lasting impact in our community because families are able to access, purchase, and consume farm fresh foods. The positive impact has already been proven by the co-founder of Grocers On Wheels, Demetrius Hunter's 94-year-old father who provided a similar food delivery service for more than 35 years, starting in the Great Depression Era. Continuing this legacy of providing healthy food for the community to buy is important for North Carolina Agriculture and Farmers who provide the freshest food because it keeps them in business. Seventy-percent of the food on our mobile produce truck is grown and bought from local NC farmers. We have witnessed the results of the Food Desert first-hand and the growing health implications of an unhealthy diet while delivering food orders. We know that our nutritional education programs work because they introduce people to healthier food choices that they are willing to try due to the long-term trust we've built through 4 generations within a a family.
