Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development Area

A nonprofit organization

Gulf Coast Resource Conservation and Development Council serves Baldwin, Escambia, and Mobile Counties. Its membership is comprised of the Poarch Band of Creek Indians and the county commissions and Soil and Water Conservation Districts of each county.

The purpose of Gulf Coast RC&D is to accelerate the conservation, development and utilization of natural resources, to improve the general level of economic activity, and to enhance the environment and standard of living within Baldwin, Escambia, and Mobile Counties. Program objectives focus on improvement of quality of life achieved through natural resource conservation, community development, which leads to sustainable communities, and the management and conservation of natural resources.

Some of the projects on the agenda for 2012 are:  The Baldwin Catfish Roundup, which is an event designed for disabled individuals; Mobile County Water Fesitval in which students are educated about water and filtration methodsl; University of South Alabama's Agritourism Venture; restoration efforts of Ft. Crawford Park by the City of East Brewton; a multi-use facility and community garden sponsored by the Stockton Sports Association; a much needed volunteer fire department in the Little River Community; afterschool achievement program sponsored by the Dumas Wesley Community Center; outdoor classroom sponsored by Dawes Intermediate School; a multicultural garden sponsored by Blount High School's FBLA; a new track for W.C. Griggs School; the North Baldwin Museum by the Stockton Heritage Association; the Mobile County Farm and City Safety Education Day sponsored by the Mobile County ACES; the Mobile County Jr. Master Gardener 4-H Club; and drainage correction and field improvement at McGill-Toolen High School.

Once completed, these projects will add value to their communites. Some of these projects will create jobs; others will sustain jobs. All of these projects will provide learning and leadership opportunities for the youth.
