H.A.V.E.N. (Havasu Abuse Education Network) Family Resource Center, a non-profit Family Advocacy Center, has been providing a safe environment for families in need to access services and resources since 2001 The mission of HAVEN Center is to assist children or vulnerable adult victims by working in alliance with other agencies to reduce the trauma to victims of crime and increase the success of prosecution. Dedicated to improving the quality of victim services through education, training and advocacy, HAVEN Center offers a safe, comfortable, confidential home like atmosphere which includes family rooms, a shower, a playroom, quiet rooms, and kitchen facilities. The purpose of HAVEN is to provide comprehensive victim services twenty-four hours per day, seven days a week, while improving the investigation and prosecution of violent offenders. Families can obtain a variety of crisis services in one location, with all agencies working together in the best interest of the victim. We also provide on- scene crisis response where trained advocates go to the hospital, medical centers, court or accompanying law enforcement to residential scenes to assist families in crisis. HAVEN Center is a fully accredited member of the National Children’s Alliance and the Arizona Child and Family Advocacy Center Network as well the AZ Coalition to End Sexual and Domestic Violence. HAVEN Center has become a caring, safe haven for abused children and adult victims of crime, as well as those in crisis.
In addition to victim services, HAVEN also houses the Mohave County Child Abuse Prevention Council, whose mission is to: increase public awareness about the tragedy of child abuse and neglect; provide resources that pertain to child abuse prevention; and support any efforts in our community that have proven to be effective in preventing child maltreatment. The Child Abuse Prevention Council’s programs include Community Education, Trainings, Presentations, Family Events, Mandated Reporter Training, Positive Parenting, and the Food 4 Kidz Program which addresses childhood hunger.
FOOD 4 KIDZ: The Food 4 Kidz Program has been addressing the problem of childhood hunger by providing take-home food for homeless and at-risk children over the weekend since 2006. Although children enrolled in school may have the free and reduced meal program, many of them still experience hunger on a regular basis, especially over weekends and school holidays. Proper nutrition is imperative for a child to focus, participate and learn properly. Children enrolled in the program can return to school Monday morning on a level playing field, able to focus and concentrate and ready to learn. The program provides nutritional child friendly food, school supplies, hygiene items and other basic needs to needy children. Remember- hunger doesn’t take the weekend off!
