2023 ANNOUNCEMENT: Ed and Lourdes Brekke (really COOL people) have agreed to match gifts for San Diego Gives up to $5,000!

San Diego Habitat offers long-term solutions to San Diego County’s affordable housing shortage. Our unique homeownership program provides opportunities to purchase a home at a price that is affordable to families who earn lower incomes. Homes are priced at or below 30% of the buyer’s income, and payments remain stable for the duration of the mortgage. Our repair programs preserve affordable housing stock, improving safety and energy efficiency — ultimately preventing displacement of current homeowners. By partnering with Habitat, families are able to break cycles of financial instability and social inequity.

Since its inception in 1988, Habitat has built and sold or repaired 400 homes. Long-term affordability is maintained through resale restrictions and shared equity, proving to be a sustainable model for long-term individual and community impact. Habitat serves as the developer, general contractor, and mortgage lender. We manage projects from acquisition through completion, assist homebuyers through the purchase process, and assemble financing comprised of impact loans, government grants, and philanthropic contributions.
