John Young has a rough past.  Now he has Daisy.

One day they’ll have a home of their own, thanks to your support of Habitat for Humanity.

When John was a teenager working tobacco on his Papaw’s farm, he didn’t know that one day he would stray onto a tough road heading for trouble.  Or that he would be blessed with clarity to get back on a straight road that would eventually lead him home, with Habitat.  The clarity came with his little girl Daisy.

“Daisy was born and I’ve never been in trouble since that day,” said John, “She makes me a better man.”

Life hasn’t always been easy for John and he never dreamed he would have the opportunity to be a homeowner.  With Daisy’s mother absent, John became a single father at a young age.  When Daisy was six months old, John lost his own father and was more committed than ever to honor his Dad and be a great father for Daisy. He realized that his sole purpose was to give his daughter a better life.

“So, I thought to myself, ‘I’m gonna’ give it a shot and see if they [Habitat] will work with me’.”

When John learned that he and Daisy were approved to be a Habitat Partner Family, “All I could say was, ‘Thank You’.”

For John, who’s worked for eight years as a tailor in Richmond, his “one day” dream to “have a home and feel stable and complete” is becoming a reality – to be able to give Daisy what he always prayed he could -- a safe place full of hope, peace and love.

Daisy, a curious and spunky five year old, is the apple of her Dad’s eye. He attends all her Tea Party picnics in the park, and one day, they look forward to fingernail painting events, and having a dog in their new Habitat home.

“One day I’d like to look back at a great life,” says John.  “And, one day,” he adds, “maybe I can help someone the way we’ve been helped, and Daisy will be able to help someone, too.”

Today is one day that you can help a family like John and Daisy. Thank you for considering a contribution to Habitat for Humanity today. Your gift means so much.
