Through our Critical Repair Network, HabitatNRV is helping older adults age at home in the New River Valley. Our local Habitat affiliate collaborates with human services organizations, including The Community Foundation of the New River Valley, to evaluate individual needs and provide repairs, modifications, and community services specific to each homeowner’s lifestyle to preserve their home and their independence.
Many families in the New River Valley do not have adequate accommodations to safely Age in Place.
The need for HabitatNRV's work is immense: older Americans are one of the fastest-growing demographics in the country. The number of residents in the New River Valley aged 65+ is expected to double by 2030.
Currently, 50% of the region’s housing stock is 40+ years old and is ill-suited for those with declining mobility and the percentage of adult children providing personal care and/or financial assistance to a parent has more than tripled over the past 15 years.
HabitatNRV's Critical Repair Network extends longevity and quality of life by providing community members the accommodations needed so they may safely age in place.
Safe and accessible housing is a key social determinant of health. As leaders in the housing community, HabitatNRV's Critical Repair Network advances both housing and health equity for older Americans in the New River Valley.
Join HabitatNRV in creating safer access to homes for residents.
To support the HabitatNRV vision of everyone having a safe and decent place to live, our goal for Give Local 2023 is to raise enough funds to build ramps for 15 homes. This provides the opportunity for community members in the New River Valley to safely Age in Place.
