Hampshire Choral Society Inc

On May 22nd at 3:00 pm, the Hampshire Choral Society will present Johannes Brahms' Ein Deutches Requiem. The concert will be held at the Fine Arts Center, UMass Amherst.

The Hampshire Choral Society depends on the support of the community, in the form of donations, ad and ticket sales, and business sponsorships, to fund our performance space, orchestra, and soloists. Our singers have been working hard to raise the money necessary to perform this spectacular work, and your donations will go directly to those concert expenses.

ABOUT US

The Hampshire Choral Society is a 120 voice amateur choir that rehearses in Northampton, Massachusetts, and performs in Hampshire County. Our group has been together for over 60 years, and is open to anyone who enjoys singing, can sing in tune, and is willing to share our commitment to rehearsing and performing fine choral music.  As a community organization, The Hampshire Choral Society thrives on the spirit of cooperation and volunteerism.

Our musical director, Allan Taylor, is beginning his ending his fifteenth year with HCS. Mr. Taylor is an accomplished concert organist and harpsichordist, and an adjunct professor of music at Westfield State University. He combines a dry wit with a passion for music, and is a joy to sing for.

HISTORY

Over the course of sixty years, we have had nine different directors and thousands of members, performed throughout the Pioneer Valley, and toured Romania and England. In 1999, under then-director Elizabeth Hart, we created two new choral groups; the Young People’s Chorus, a choir for elementary to high-school aged children, and Singers’ Project, an elite vocal ensemble. The Young People’s Chorus is thriving under the talented direction of K.C. Conlan, and often joins with HCS in our fall concert. Singers’ Project is no longer affiliated with HCS, but a similar group is flourishing under Ms. Hart’s direction.
