Hance Park Fact Sheet
The Past
- Hance Park was dedicated in 1992 and named after the first female Mayor of Phoenix: Margaret T. Hance
- Hance Park was designed as a 32.5 acre ‘cover’ over ‘the last mile’ of I-10
- Hance Park’s original masterplan was never fully realized because of funding short falls
- Hance Park became the focus the Roosevelt Action Association (RAA) in 2010
- RAA gathered neighboring advocates to improve park conditions
- Hance Park Conservancy, an organization of 20+neighboring stakeholders, cultural institutions, businesses and concerned citizens grew from this effort and the work of the City of Phoenix Hance Park Master Plan Steering Committee
The Present
- Hance Park was approved for a new masterplan in Spring 2013 and the concept plan was approved by the City Council on April 9, 2014.
- The City of Phoenix after a rigorous selection process hired a masterplan design team comprised of local, national and international talent : !Melk / Jerry Van Eyck lead designer / master planner, Weddle Gilmore / Phil Weddle prime consultant and Floor Associates / Kris Floor landscape architect.
The Future
- Hance Park Conservancy ("HPC") will support this masterplan
- Hance Park Conservancy will catalyze public private partnerships, stewardship, and fundraising based on phased implementation of the masterplan
