Hands of Favor

We were fortunate to have been introduced to Derek and Regina Thompson and the ministry they provide the community this year.  They have supported our residents at Central Park Place and Aurora Place with fellowship, encouragement and community while also adding the side benefit of a free haircut.  Our residents are all low income and in need and many neglect getting a haircut because of the financial choices they have to make.  Each time the Thompson’s come by and help address this, you can see a new confidence in our residents and a greater sense of pride.   Hands of Favor’s arrival each month is eagerly anticipated, and they always come in with a great attitude and joy that is infectious.  We wish them all the best and continued success in reaching the lives of those in our community.

On behalf of everyone at Friends of the Carpenter, I would like to express our deep appreciation to Derek, Regina, Abel and everyone at Hands of Favor for their presence in this community and the ministry they share at our Friendship Center on a monthly basis.  Their Mission to Restore, Renew, and Motivate aligns with and complements so well our Mission of providing Safety, Structure and Purpose.  The professional grooming services they provide has helped so many who are vulnerable and struggling in this community to feel better about themselves, which is often so necessary in the process of making progress and building a better life.  Thanks and Blessings, Hands of Favor, for your care, your commitment and your faith in action.

Hands of favor has directly joined in with our mission at rahab's sisters which is to offer "radical hospitality" to women that have been marginalized by the sex industry, homelessness and poverty.   Each 3rd Friday, they show up and dedicate themselves to our guests.   Our guests rely on them to be there and to make them feel human.   Our partnership with them aligns beautifully and in turn they make our guests feel welcome, safe and they too have formed friendships with our sisters. "My name is Dan Rogers and I have recently been hired as Program Director of My Father's House. Over these past months, as I have become acclimated to my role here and familiar with our families at My Father's House, I have been so very impressed with the skill, faithfulness,sensitivity and caring that Derek and Regina bring every month to our residents through Hands of Favor. I have appreciated their approach and rapport-building ability as they interact and serve our families. I have noticed how cutting and styling hair is a very personal endeavor. Working with our residents who have been homeless and often traumatized due to a wide variety of circumstances therefore requires a high level of skill, patience and a special, calming demeanor to allow for that level of personal care to be received. Adding kids to the mix brings this to another whole level. I have observed a wonderful transition taking place as our residents "let down their guard" and begin to unburden themselves with Derek.
