Hatbox Theatre opened at the Steeplegate Mall in Concord in April 2016. During its run, Hatbox and its cooperative partner organizations staged 178+ productions with over 1,200 performances for over 36,000 patrons. It engaged dozens of production companies, many of whom have gone on to win awards and present in venues throughout the region.
In January 2024, the venue closed its doors, but programming continued as producers went into "nomad" mode with performances being presented at the Manchester Community Theater Players space in Manchester, and the City Auditorium Lobby, the Shoebox (aka United Shoe Repair), and Kimball Jenkins, all in Concord. The Hatbox community continues, having completed its last performance of Season 10 with Discovering Magic at Kimball Jenkins. The recently-formed Hatbox Theatre Association, a 501(c)3 organization, has been working behind the scenes to support productions in alternative locations and raise funds towards securing and building out a new home.
Our mission is to provide a dynamic venue and programming that services
and fosters a cooperative community to develop unique, intimate
experiences for audiences and artists.
The goal for this fundraiser is to help us to secure monthly rental, insurance, and utilities costs we need while the venue is being built up. We cannot generate significant income via productions until that happens.
