Healing Through the Arts Inc

Healing Through The Arts founded the Hope and Healing Juried Art Show for high school and college students to help us bring art and inspiration to those who need it most.  The annual Hope & Healing Juried Art Show is a project that helps change the quality of health and healing for patients and caregivers by providing inspirational art to hospitals and healthcare facilities.  The art, created and donated by students, is available, at no charge to hospitals and healthcare facilities to place where patients spend time waiting, especially in patient rooms and treatment areas.

Studies show that patients with access to views of inspirational artwork, familiar visual images, or nature, are more hopeful and optimistic about their treatment options.  Some patients even needed less pain medication or were able to leave the hospital sooner.

Art work from past art shows are now inspiring healing in many Lehigh Valley hospital networks or healthcare facilities.

Why is art important to healing? When patients and their caregivers have exposure to art they:

• Are more optimistic and hopeful
• Experience less boredom, anxiety and loneliness
• Are better able to let go of fears and tension and reduce stress
• Are better able to communicate their emotions and concerns about treatments and procedures
• Feel less pain and respond better to treatment since a less stressed body is more able to heal than a tense one
