Heartbeat NOLA

A nonprofit organization

Heartbeat NOLA Mission: To significantly increase the number of New Orleans citizens who are trained in CPR/AED/First Aid and will be able to save a life from Sudden Cardiac Arrest - the leading cause of death in the US. Heartbeat NOLA is a citizen CPR & AED Awareness and Education Program as well as a Fundraising Campaign to place more accessible AEDs in the New Orleans area. We also provide training and certification in Adult & Infant CPR, AED and First Aid.

Since New Orleans area musician, Maurice Trosclair's SCA (Sudden Cardiac Arrest) on Valentine's Day 2017, he and his wife Nancy have learned so much and become acutely aware of the need for more AEDs in the New Orleans area, and to have more people trained in Citizen CPR and AEDs. It is through Heartbeat NOLA that we will accomplish this. Both Nancy and Maurice have become BLS (Basic Life Support) Instructors and have worked with both the American Heart Association and the American Red Cross. It is an Awareness and Education Campaign as well as a Fund-Raising Campaign.

Heartbeat NOLA was fully established not long before the pandemic, however, in that short time, Maurice, Nancy and the HBN Team had already trained hundreds of New Orleans citizens, in addition to also donating an AED and staff training to Snug Harbor, Tipitina's, and Maple Leaf. In 2022-23 We have placed AEDs and provided training in Second Line Brewery, Bywater Brew Pub, Howlin' Wolf and Chickie Wah Wah. Help us in our mission to create a Heart=Safe City.

Testimonials

On Valentine's Day February 14, 2017, after suffering a Sudden Cardiac Arrest on an elevator, Maurice Trosclair, CEO was the recipient of an incredibly miraculous and successful "chain of survival." Bystander CPR and on-location access to an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) not only saved his life, but also proved to maximize his recovery. Maurice survived only because citizen first responders provided life-saving efforts before EMS arrived on the scene.

On May 28, 2021 Maurice suffered another Sudden Cardiac Arrest cardiac arrest at a grocery store just outside of Yosemite National Park in California. Once again a citizen first responder (this time his wife Nancy) performed CPR until EMS arrived who delivered shocks from an AED to restart his heart. He was then transported to Sonora, CA then flown by helicopter to Modesto, CA. where he also made a full recovery.

Only 1 in 10 survive an out-of-hospital Cardiac Arrest. Maurice has survived TWO, and both for the same reason. The answer to surviving an SCA with maximum results is immediate bystander CPR and quick access to an Automated External Defibrillator. So Heartbeat NOLA's mission is to teach as many people CPR as possible, donate and place public access AEDs in popular venues and gathering places and teach all those employees how to do CPR and use the AED.
