Heath Agricultural Society Inc

The Heath Agricultural Society (HAS), of Heath MA, is a small, volunteer run organization whose presence in Heath, and in the wider community, is of longstanding importance.

Generations of active farming in Heath, and in the larger community naturally lead to the institutionalization of an annual event at which farmers and community members could gather to celebrate and share produce, stories, ideas, and commonality.  In Heath this would become known as the Heath Fair, and in 1969 the Heath Agricultural Society was incorporated in order that our cultural heritage be sustained and celebrated for future generations.  

The Heath Agricultural Society endeavors to encourage, preserve, promote, and celebrate the practical, historical, and cultural aspects of Agriculture in Heath, and Franklin County through educational opportunities, charitable opportunities, and celebratory events.  Though there are other ways in which the HAS honors its purpose(s), none are so prominent as the Annual Heath Fair.  In August of 2016 the HAS will celebrate its 99th Annual Heath Fair. 

This event is planned year round and will involve hundreds of community volunteers who will work together to create a venue for the remembrance of our cultural heritage with:

• ox draws, 
• displays of animal breeds
• tractor and horse pulls
• livestock showmanship
• craft/produce competitions and more

We honor our heritage and we strive to educate our selves and our community with:

• expert guest speakers 
• an agricultural tent offering crafting techniques
• local vendors who share their wares and knowledge

We come to the fair for the pure joy of participating in a community celebration where  great music, great food, square dancing, and a pleasant pace marks the end of another warm, productive summer.

The HAS works faithfully to plan the Heath Fair, and its other events.  Throughout a given year there will be innumerable ideas put forth to strengthen, deepen, and diversify what it is that we offer to the thousands who will participate in the Fair experience every August.  Prioritizing and developing these ideas is the responsibility of a handful of volunteers and is supported by donations and grants from the community.  

This year the Heath Agricultural Society wishes to raise $1,000 on Giving Tuesday to make improvements and repairs to the Fairgrounds.  Please donate $10, or more, and help us to strengthen our base so that we may grow and offer more to the community.  We thank you for your support and we hope to see you at the 99th Heath Fair, August 2016.
