Heber-Overgaard Community Food Bank

Heber-Overgaard sits in northeastern Arizona along the Mogollon Rim in Navajo County. It’s a small, unincorporated mountain community with roughly 3,000 year‑round residents. During the summer, many people from the lower desert escape the heat and come here to enjoy our cooler temperatures and abundant outdoor recreation. Summer days typically range from 80–90 degrees, with evenings cooling into the 60s. Winters are generally mild, with occasional snowfall.

Our community is filled with people who care deeply about making “our little paradise” the best it can be. At the same time, Navajo County faces a high poverty rate, and Heber‑Overgaard’s rate is 11.7%. Many of our neighbors—including veterans, disabled individuals, retirees, and working families—depend on reliable access to food.

The Heber‑Overgaard Community Food Bank, founded in June 2020, is entirely volunteer‑run. Our dedicated volunteers work year‑round to unpack, distribute, check in clients, and even deliver food to homebound residents. As a partner agency of United Food Bank, we receive food deliveries twice each month. We now serve more than 400 people every month, and that number continues to grow.

Last year, we moved into a new indoor facility, allowing us to reduce waste, expand our hours, and provide a better experience for those we serve. With this growth, however, comes increased need. Since expanding our hours, the number of people seeking assistance has risen by 20%. We also now have rent and utility expenses associated with the new location.
