Correctly prescribed eyeglasses are a simple solution to vision impairment caused by refractive errors (nearsightedness, farsightedness, and astigmatism).  Yet for millions of people living in poverty, access to quality vision care remains out of reach.

Helen Keller Intl’s US Vision work in Minnesota has been providing students and community members with vision screenings, refractions, and glasses since October 2018.

During the 2023/2024 school year alone, our team screened more than 6,000 students and community members, 2,000 of whom received prescription glasses, all free of charge.  We have now expanded coverage in the Minneapolis/St. Paul metro area to include the cities of Roseville, Maplewood, North St. Paul, and Oakdale.  When school is not in session, we are out in our community serving vulnerable populations with vision screenings and eyeglasses in community centers, community programs, health clinics, and homeless shelters.
