In developing countries, untreated cataracts are the leading cause of blindness negatively impacting a person's quality of life and reducing their life expectancy. Their families, caretakers and entire communities take on severe social and economic burdens. 

HelpMeSee is eliminating cataract blindness by training cataract specialists to ensure that all communities, especially those with severe economic hardship, have access to cataract treatment as a human right to sight. Our donors and training partners have restored sight to over 265,000 people across the globe, but we need your help to do more. This global health crisis impacts over 100 million people and this number is set to double by the year 2050.

Meet Amba + Dr. Bayaraa

Amba is an 85-year-old woman whose life was brought to a halt by cataract. Blind in both eyes, her family had to care for her; she had become totally dependent on others.

Dr. Mandah Bayaraa, Amba’s surgeon, said “We do not do cataract surgery during our residency program. So, I did not have the chance to practice cataract surgery.” His training with HelpMeSee allowed him to learn and perform realistic cataract surgeries on the HelpMeSee Eye Surgery Simulator, giving him the confidence and training necessary to help those with cataract in his community.
